Correspondence
A lengthy draft letter from Lucy Lloyd to Anna Clason (née Bleek), dated 20 July 1880 from Charlton House, Mowbray. Lucy apologises for the long silence and gives a chronological account of her dismissal from the Grey Library, spanning late February to April. Despite being told she was no longer needed after 29 February, no provision was made for the Library's care. She and Jemima appealed to officials and trustees, resulting in a protest letter and government intervention that temporarily reinstated her. Lucy also reports cousin Annie Lloyd's and others' visits, sister Julia's declining health and Jemima's successful efforts to block the appointment of an unfit successor to Wilhelm at the Library. In March, two Bushman boys came to stay, joining the two already there and requiring Lucy's care. In April, Rev. Lloyd and Susan visited en route to England, which she describes. The letter ends abruptly here.
