Dictionary and Lexicons

Description

The lexicons and dictionaries consist of 6 bound volumes compiled by WHI Bleek and almost 86,000 slips of words and phrases compiled by LC Lloyd and DF Bleek, often cross-referenced to the notebooks. WHI Bleeks and Lloyd's ǀxam lexicon forms the bulk of this, along with Lloyd's ǃkun dictionary. DF Bleek also compiled a significant collection of words and phrases in ǃkun during and following her journey through Angola with Mary Pocock. DF Bleek's contribution also includes vocabulary for other languages and dialects, including ǁng, ǀ'auni and Xatia, ǀxegwi, Naro, ǁkx'au ǁen ('Auen'), Haiǁom and Hadza. Drafts of her Bushmen dictionary (published posthumously in 1956) can be found here too. Related correspondence can be found in the correspondence collection.
