Photographs and Portraits

Photographs associated with the Bleek and Lloyd archive can be found at various institutions in South Africa, as well as in Europe (particularly Germany) and the United Kingdom (including the British Museum and collections at Cambridge and Oxford). The CCA has, over the past three decades, assembled a considerable collection of prints and digital photographs. Photographs included here come from both the latter collection and the materials in the UCT collection. Please note that photographs including overt nudity and, often, demeaning poses have not been included here, but scholars and others may request permission to see these and should consult the fonds of the University of Cape Town's BC 151.
