Correspondence
A draft letter dated 28 February 1878 from Lucy Lloyd to Miss Frere at the Grey Library. In response to JM Orpen's enquiry as to the treatment of the Bushmen, Lloyd reports that the ǀxam at Mowbray spoke of farmers killing game, claiming waterpits and stealing honey-nests. ǁkabbo asked Wilhelm Bleek to petition the governor for help driving away farmers. Lucy wants to visit the Bushmen in Griqualand East but feels bound to the "defenceless" Grey Library - ǀhanǂkass'o offered to accompany and take care of and protect her on the trip. She fears the heartache of seeing their hardships and hopes a mission might be founded to protect them.
