Summary

A copy of a letter from Lucy to Charles S Orpen dated 5 November 1882, with a postscript added 12 November, from Charlton House, Mowbray, regarding the late George W Stow's Bushman pictures. Lucy tells Orpen they have sent him Wilhelm Bleek's "Second Report"and explains the delay. She expects the case of pictures sent by Mrs Stow to arrive shortly. She suggests that a few paintings of "peculiarities" unsuited for general publication be included in a supplementary scholarly volume, ideally edited in Europe. Once the case arrives, she will send Orpen a list so he can help identify or clarify missing and other details. She will return to Orpen Stow's letters from Mr Littleton and Mr Murray as well as Stow's synopsis. Lucy points out that the Second Report will show that Stow sent 42 paintings and 19 rock engraving drawings to Wilhelm in 1875, with a few later entrusted to Miss Frere for England not yet located. She thanks Orpen for Stow's poems and asks him to annotate a South African map with Bushman painting sites and places where they have been.
