Lucy Lloyd's copy of her English translation of a letter dictated in ǀxam by Diaǃkwain ("Daoud Hoesar"), dated 20 August 1875 at Charlton House, Mowbray. Addressed to his sister ǃkwe-ten-taǁken ("Rachel") and her family, with the assistance of Dr H Meyer of Calvinia, the letter asks why they have not written to say they have returned safely - he believes they would have written if they had. He requests that Dr H Meyer send a message via Gert van Wyk at Middlepost to inquire after them. Diaǃkwain wants to know why ǃkwe-ten-taǁken has not let him know she has returned safely, and asks that she and her family tell him what has happened to them. He had thought of returning, but Wilhelm Bleek did not want him to leave and then died "in August's moon". Jemima Bleek is still weeping, and Diaǃkwain does not want to leave while she mourns - he is sad himself. She has not given consent, so he waits to be told what to do.
