Summary

A letter in German from Wilhelm Bleek to his cousion Ernst Haeckel, sent from London on 25 May 1869. Bleek informs Haeckel he plans to travel from London to Bonn and Berlin and hopes to meet him that summer. The main content repeats some of Bleek's letter of 20 October 1868, focusing on the origin of the human race. Bleek discusses Haeckel's "Die Naturliche Schopfungsgeschichte" (1868), agreeing in part but disagreeing with Haeckel's views on the influence of racial mixing. As before, Bleek supports the theory of Africa as the birthplace of humanity. He also discusses the potential English translation of Haeckel's "Morphology", discussing concerns about English sensitivities, but suggests a good translation (perhaps with a foreword by Huxley) could succeed. Bleek closes by thanking Haeckel again for his help publishing "On the Origin of the Language".
