Ink and graphite on paper
Unknown
A typewritten slip with descriptive data and a drawn humanoid figure on adhered tracing paper with annotations/corrections in black ink and pencil.
The humanoid figure drawn here relates to an unnumbered George Stow copy from the Iziko collection searchable as 'STOW_112' (https://lloydbleekcollection.cs.uct.ac.za/stow/STOW_112.html) on the Digital Bleek and Lloyd website and features on page 72 of Pippa Skotnes' 'Unconquerable Spirit: George Stow's History Paintings of the San' (2008). Someone, likely Dorothea Bleek, cancelled the 'unmarked' in 'Locality unmarked', replacing it with 'Cave in precipitous gorge on farm Rockwood, Orange R.' followed by 'Serpent 9 spans long' (Bleek, Rosenthal, & Goodwin, 1953: 23). A separate but connected annotation scrawled in black ink is mostly illegible.
