Notes

"Specimens of Bushman Folklore. Collected by the late W.H.I. Bleek Ph.D., and L.C. Lloyd. Edited by the latter." An article in "The Scotsman" introduces the publication as a valuable contribution to anthropological and philological science. It describes the work of Bleek and Lloyd in collecting the soon-to-be-lost language, fables and traditions of the "wild Bushman", as well as the appearance and content of the book. These include the printing of Bleek's "special signs" representing the Bushman's "curiosities of articulation" as well as "translations of the fragments of his mythology, legends, and poetry, and his conceptions of natural history...". The number 3 is handwritten in the top right-hand corner of the page. "6" is printed above the headline but "Page 2" has been written by hand underneath the header.
