Notes

The author from "The Yorkshire Post" starts by praising "the earnest and skilled" Bleek and Lloyd's study of Bushman language, customs and legends. They single out the side-by-side printing of |xam texts and English translations as being of especial value to the philologist. They describe the clicks and the signs Bleek and Lloyd came up with to represent them and consider how this means the Bushman folklore could be recorded from dictation and, as a result, more widely known. The author then quotes and discusses an example of a short poem by ||kabbo, describing it as "primitive" and not "poetic". However, the author allows that many of the Bushmen's' ideas are poetic and imaginative and as a result the book is of great value when read with both the "heart of the poet or the brain of a scientist". Lloyd has written the name of the journal and the date of publication above the clipping directly on the scrapbook page. The scrapbook page number 25 is hand written in the top right-hand corner.
