Notes

"Paleolithic Man." The article in the "Sheffield Daily News" leads by referring to the questions ethnographers have long had about the Bushmen, their folk-lore and customs. The author expresses their belief in the value of the publication for philologists and anthropologists. They state that while Lloyd edited and led the volume to publication, it is also a "monument" to Bleek's initial, untiring work. They point out how Theal partly answers these questions in his introduction, which unfortunately also describes the disappearance of the Bushmen as well as their origins and links with other similar peoples who are unchanged from their ancestors. The article goes on to briefly describe the book's text structure (suited to the language of Bleek's subjects, the appearance of which he had to invent) and its illustrations. It concludes by emphasising the volume's valuable contribution to "our knowledge of the primitive races". The scrapbook page features the handwritten number 18 in top right-hand corner. The name of the newspaper has been handwritten across the top of the article, above and beneath the header.
