"At the call of science. Specimens of Bushman Folklore. Collected by the late W.H.J.[sic] Bleek, Ph.D., and L.C. Lloyd... [etc.]" This "Glasgow Herald" article begins by describing the deceased Bleek's devotion to the study of Bushmen language and lore. The author describes the threat to the Bushman way of life and warns of the need for speedy study in order to capture a "living record" of Paleolithic man. They provide a brief account of how the Bushmen came to be at Bleek's home and how Lloyd took over the research after his death. They refer to the many difficulties surmounted in order to publish this volume, not least delayed by lack of state financial support. The article stresses the scientific importance of the book. In particular, the layout, which features both English and Bushman text, will suit the philologist. The author briefly summarises a few examples of the folklore and beliefs from the book (many with analogies with European superstition), demonstrating their appeal to the anthropologist. They conclude by hoping that Lloyd will publish further volumes. "P.13." is hand-written above the headline of the article. The scrapbook page features the handwritten number 17 at the top right-hand corner.
