"W.H.I. Bleek and L.C. Lloyd. - Specimens of Bushman Folklore, 8vo. Pp.xl-468...[etc]." The "Royal Colonial Institute Journal" writer begins by stating the importance of Bleek and Lloyd's investigations of the near-extinct Bushmen and reminds the reader that Bleek is the only qualified person studying them with scientific thoroughness; that studying any dying race is of interest but as reflections of Paleolithic humans in Africa and the origins of mankind the study is especially important. They provide a brief description of the various incursions into Bushman territories by other peoples such as the Bantu races and Europeans, then allude to Bleek's death before finishing or publishing his work and Lloyd's "zealous" continuation of his research and publication. The author accuses the Cape state government of apathy and neglect in not ensuring the publication of Bleek's research through funding and opines that the loss of such valuable study would have been "bitterly regretted" by ethnologists and philologists. Only Lloyd's "indomitable pluck and perseverance" ensured a small portion of the investigations got published. The publication details and date of the article are hand-written under the sub-heading "Book Notices". The pasted newspaper page is numbered 817 in print. The scrapbook page features the handwritten number 15 in the top right-hand corner.
