Printed newsprint glued on paper
09/07/1864
One cut out column of newsprint text pasted onto a plus-sized A4 unlined sheet with visible warping.
An original cutting of a Victorian article (no thematic title included in the cut out) by WHI Bleek. Published in Het Volksblad on Saturday, July 9th, 1864. A continuation of the previous entry entitled "Mr. Chabaud's Resignation andwhat came after". "Mr Painter" is likely Richard Joseph Painter (the MP for Fort Beaufort). It is unclear whether "leader of parliament" refers to Saul Solomon (the leader of the 'Westerners'), who is not herein named, or Sir Christoffel Brand. As Speaker, Brand is a leader of parliament, so to speak, but is not listed as a member representing Cape Town (which Solomon represented). His later description of Solomon as "Cape parliamentary leader" in D1_8_24_034.jpeg supports the former.
