"Correspondence. Native 'Slavery' Wages and the Depression." Dorothea Bleek writes to the "Cape Times" about an article in the previous Tuesday's paper reporting on an inquiry into alleged native slavery of the Masarwa of Bechuanaland by the Bechuana. Referring to her time in the Protectorate 15 years ago, Bleek feels the proposed inquiry will be difficult because the Bushmen are afraid of white men and will disappear into the bush until the inquiry is over. She states that this state of dependence and servitude occurs when a larger, pastoral/stronger race enters the territory of a hunter-gatherer/weaker race and that the weaker race must be taught about the law in order to protect themselves. Slip of paper pasted underneath clipping reads: "International Press-Cutting Bureau, 110, Fleet Street, London, E.C.4. Extract from Cape Times, Cape Town. 22 Jul. 1931 [stamped]"
