"Not Proven Yet". "Diverse Views on the Bushman's Stone - The New Fire-Drill Theory Causes Interesting Controversy - But Experts Want More Evidence." On April 4 "The Star" published an article discussing how the "Bushman Stone" was possible used as a flywheel. In response numerous letters were sent in expressing reader opinions, segments of which are published in this article. The article refers to "the late Dr W.H.I. Bleek" in relation to the largely accepted view that the stone was used with the digging stick as a weight but not made for that purpose. A Wits social anthropologist refutes the hypothesis of the stone's use as a flywheel for fire-making. Article features three captioned reproductions of drawings - two by T. Powell illustrating his conclusions (including how the stone was used as a missile). Slip of paper pasted underneath clipping reads: "International Press-Cutting Bureau 110 Fleet Street, London, E.C.4 Extract from Star Johannesburg, S.A. 18 Apr 1931 [stamped]."
