"Cape Town Welcomes Gen. Smuts. Surging, Cheering Crowds". Smuts visits Cape Town for the first time since WW2 to celebrate the victorious end to the war. He is driven through streets, in the Cape Town mayoral carriage alongside the Mayor and other dignitaries. The journey finishes up at the Grand Parade and City Hall with a ceremony. Thousands welcome him and listen to his speech. This clipping includes a photograph with a caption describing the ceremonial Mayoral carriage and naming General Smuts and other occupants (including a Malay driver in traditional livery).
