1.It appears that C15.23.2 + C15.24 are two versions of roughly the same letter with regard to content (we do not have a copy of Lucy's final version) and were thus probably written around the same time. Lady Verney was Florence Nightingale's sister, and it is apparent from this letter that the Folk-Lore Journal was recommended to her by Miss Frere (friend also to the Lloyd sisters in the Cape). Miss Frere has elsewhere been described, along with her father Sir Bartle Frere, as "initiating" the SA Folk-Lore Society. [See Cape Times quoted in Prospectus of Journal for Native Folklore and Ethnology, C15.33-34]
