A letter from the Office of the Commissioner of Crown Lands and Public Works, Cape of Good Hope, to an official at the Breakwater Convict Station, dated 24 June 1880. Chief clerk W Hawthorn writes that the Assistant Commissioner has authorised Miss Lloyd and Mr Hermann to visit the station on a Saturday to photograph a group of Bushman convicts. A postscript adds that the authorisation extends to any assistant of Mr Hermann's.
