A letter to Lucy from Rev. Johannes Rath, sent from Kuilsriver and dated 14 November 1879. Rath encloses his translation of a communication, along with nine issues of The Academy, and comments on the pleasure he takes in reading about books, due to his limited access. He offers to make a German copy with Latin letters in future if it would help Lucy, and contrasts the labour of transcription versus translation. He mentions Mr Price's and Wilhelm Bleek's comments on prefixes and expresses hope that Max Müller, asked to find a librarian for the Grey Library, will choose wisely - but he expects Müller will find a fitter person than the Library Committee would. Rath regrets not applying himself - he would have opened the library only once a week, saving the library money.
