Correspondence
A letter from Lucy Lloyd to Richard Lydekker, dated 4 October 1904. Lucy sends a chromolithograph of ǁkabbo - "Dr Bleek's old Bushman Teacher" - as well as some Bushman photographs. Taken from a painted portrait, it fails to capture ǁkabbo's expression or skin tone, though Lucy notes this likely will not matter for Lydekker's black-and-white reproduction. She had intended to send the photos in 1899 while in London, but the necessary data were missing and illness, a niece's death and other setbacks delayed her further. A niece travelling via England will post the small parcel of photographs. Lucy asks for the return of portrait III after copying, as it is the only known copy of her Bushman woman teacher. She also offers to send some Namaqua Hottentot portraits - irreplaceable gifts from a now-deceased missionary - requesting their return once drawings have been made.
