Correspondence
A letter from Jemima Lloyd to Wilhelm Bleek, written on board the Celt (about 150 miles from Plymouth) and dated 30 May 1861, then completed in England on 4 June. Jemima hopes Wilhelm received her last letter and wonders if he is in Natal and what he thinks of "Loui" if so. She shares her thoughts on the voyage and "society" of the other passengers. She reflects on being perceived as a "dragon" due to her response to male passengers who took liberties with her quiet demeanour, and imagines Wilhelm calling her "very vicious". She reports on her poor health and spirits on board, and how much more "pleasing" Mrs Fisher is. After describing her movements and travel plans in England, she asks him to write to her and tell her all about himself, calling him her "dear friend".
