Summary

An incomplete note from Jemima Lloyd to Wilhelm Bleek, written in the week before their wedding. The note regards clauses 7 and 8 of the draft marriage settlement (or Articles of Agreement) being drawn up to govern the investment of her capital. Jemima lists the terms of the agreement she finds unsatisfactory, including the omission of her right to lend Wilhelm money from her mother's marriage settlement - despite her clear prior instruction. She notes that her "power" to lend him £500 from her own investment amount is included. She finds this version of the settlement simpler, leaving finding Trustees and such details for them to settle later, but she wishes to do whatever Wilhelm thinks right.

Notes

1 This note is incomplete. 2. The wedding was on 22 November 1862. 3. Jemima's notes on the settlement are undated, but judging by what she says in other notes we can assume they were also written on Sat 15 Nov 1862. (The other notes to Wilhelm of this type have been dated 15 Nov in pen, probably added on a later occasion.) [See C8.26 and C8.29 for e.g. of dated notes] 4. For "Articles of Agreement" see WB to JL 17 November 1862 [C4.27] 5. The £500 features in a letter Wilhelm Bleek received from Uncle Marmaduke proposing that Jemima's fortune be tied up during Wilhelm's lifetime and vested under the control of Trustees; that neither of them could touch the capital beyond an "emergency" amount of £500 to be lent by the Trustees from the capital amount. [See WB to JL 9 June 1862, [C4.17] and also Jemima's notes on the draft settlement [in C8.28]].
