Correspondence
A letter from Jemima Lloyd to Wilhelm Bleek, written on board the Celt near St Helena on 27 April, 1861. The first of her letters after their meeting at Mrs Roesch's boarding house in Cape Town. Jemima expresses concern for Wilhelm's health, describes her own recovery from seasickness, and notes the health of her companion, Mrs Fisher. Dissatisfied with her fellow passengers, she wishes he were there to talk to and hopes he will continue writing to her. She also hopes he gets to travel to Natal. She reassures him he may be honest if her letters are too long or difficult to read and signs off warmly as "Jemmie".

1. This letter is in response to Wilhelm's first letter to Jemima after their meeting, dated 15 May 1861. For some reason, in that letter, Wilhelm addresses Jemima as "Miss Charlotte". [See C4.1] 2. There are photographs of Mrs Fisher. See Photographs and Portraits on this website.
