A copy of Dr J Smeath-Thomas' response, dated 5 May 1947, to Professor Louis Maingard's letter of enquiry regarding the £500 grant made to Dorothea Bleek by the now-defunct Research Grant Board (of which Smeath-Thomas was Chairman) for the publication of her Bushman Dictionary. Smeath-Thomas explains which two bodies have taken over the affairs of the Research Grant Board. He advises that Dorothea contact the Secretary of Education, Mr Advocate Roberts, now responsible for funding projects approved by the old Board, for the payment of the £500.
