Correspondence
A copy of a letter from Zellig S Harris to Dorothea Bleek, 16 July 1948, regarding the publication of her "Comparative Dictionary of the Bushman Languages" by the American Oriental Society. Harris is sending Dorothea the master copies of the first three letters of her dictionary for proofreading because Dr Helen E Hause, who is preparing the dictionary master copy, is away. He asks Dorothea to return the master sheets with her corrections noted on a separate sheet of paper. He comments on the difficulties encountered in getting "satisfactory characters". While the ones on the enclosed master sheets are the best they could arrange, a few do not have the form Dorothea would want - but nothing can be done.

1. Dorothea Bleek died on 27 July, 1948, shortly after this letter was written and possibly before it arrived in Cape Town (along with the master sheets it accompanied). This accounts for why there is no reply. 2. See Professor Zellig's letter of 7 October 1948 [C19.36].
