Copy of a letter from Professor Zellig S Harris to Dr Isaac Schapera, 22 March 1947 (forwarded to Dorothea by the latter). Professor Harris responds to Schapera's letter investigating the possibility of the American Oriental Society publishing Dorothea Bleek's "A Comparative Dictionary of the Bushman Languages". Harris acknowledges the difficulty of finding a printer, having tried unsuccessfully to find one able to do the job. He proposes using a "Varityper", describing how it works and sending samples of typefaces. He suggests that while type can be found for most of Dorothea's characters, an artist could fill in the rare unusual signs. He explains the costs involved and offers the American Oriental Society's payment of any cost above Dorothea's £1000 budget. If Dorothea approves of his proposal, he asks that she send the MS so a publication contract can be drawn up.
