White responds to Dorothea's letter about receiving an insurance cheque for the loss of the original "drawings" for "More Rock Paintings in South Africa". He also reports to Dorothea on her suggestion about finding size and scale information for the book's reproductions: no such details were recorded anywhere other than on the backs of the lost pictures.

1. The drawings were the van der Riets' watercolour copies of rock paintings, made for Dorothea Bleek. 2. In her letter of 4 April, Dorothea suggests asking Methuen's engravers how much they reduced the plates - after a reviewer's criticism regarding the lack of scale and information as to the original size of the images reproduced in the book [see C17.72].
