A letter from Joyce van der Riet to Dorothea Bleek, from Grahamstown on 10 June 1932, regarding the copying of Bushman paintings. Van der Riet reports in detail on their Graaff-Reinet trip, expressing concern that Dorothea may be disappointed with the copies, especially the limited number they were able to do. They found some engravings (mentioned by George Stow), but these were scratched, not chipped into the rocks. She also mentions the difficulty of finding information on the farms named by Dorothea, though they were able to identify the present owners. Van der Riet details the farms they visited or contacted, sharing what they were told by the farmers about the paintings and the Bushmen, as well as the quality of the paintings they discovered. They found chippings on a farm near New Bethesda, copied them as best they could, and took decent photographs. She concludes with the possible locations of paintings she has heard about during the trip, including a list given by a "garage man" on the day they left.
