Summary

A letter from Wilhelm Bleek to Frances (Fanny) Lloyd, sent from Cape Town on 30 October 1862. Wilhelm describes preparations for Jemima's arrival and the house he and Lucy have taken in New Street, near the library with views of Table Mountain. They've hired a capable servant, former cook on the Waldensian steamer, and are busy with preparations, although Wilhelm fears they won't be ready in time. He praises Lucy's "indefatigable" help; how she thinks him "a very foolish person" and shares some banter between sister- and brother-in-law to be. Wilhelm reports that Lucy heard their banns read at the Cathedral last Sunday, and the wedding will shortly follow Jemima's arrival. He adds that Jemima will be glad he made Lucy stay in Cape Town, though she's anxious to return to her sisters in Natal.
