Correspondence
A letter in German from Sophie Bleek (writing on behalf of her husband, Hermann Bleek, aged 77) to Hermann's cousin Ernst Haeckel, dated 11 August 1918 from Bonn. They congratulate Ernst on the purchase of his house by Jena University, honouring his life's work. Hermann reminisces affectionately about Ernst's parents, thanks him for the family photographs (which also brought his daughter Anni much pleasure) and expresses their high regard for him. They send greetings "probably for the last time" and hope his end will be easy - all three are preparing for "the farewell from this life".
