Correspondence
A letter from Wilhelm Bleek to Sir George Grey, sent from Cape Town on 9 October 1871. Bleek sends the letter via the Cossack, bound for Australia, and hopes Grey received the African language books he sent. He reports the birth of twin daughters-one died, the other is now thriving-and notes that none of his children are strong. Bushman studies are progressing steadily; he shares a few key Bushman beliefs and myths as well as their physical features and sounds. He urges Grey to visit to see how far along his studies are. His papers, submitted to scholarly societies, have now been published, and he reminds Grey to send his "Papuan" paper to Huxley. He requests three manuscripts by Rev. Wuras and encloses articles, manuscipts, pamphlets, etc., as well as photographs of the younger of the two Bushmen living with them (|a!kunta) and one of himself and his daughter. He adds "Please come soon!" as a postscript.
