Correspondence
A letter of "gossip" from Edwin Norris to Wilhelm Bleek, dated 3 October 1863 and sent from Worthing, where Norris is holidaying/recovering his strength. He blames his long silence on age and failing memory, noting he is nearly 70. He thanks Bleek for the books and "Hottentot Fables" but admits he remembers little of the language. Norris then asks Bleek's view on the "menacing" political climate in Europe and America and requests his opinion on conditions at the Cape - how Dutch and English communities interact, languages spoken and the Colony's general progress. He closes by admitting he has forgotten Bleek's address but trusts the Cape Town post office will know his name.
