Correspondence
A note from Jemima Lloyd to Wilhelm Bleek, written 15 November 1862, a week before their wedding. This note, headed "No 2 Business," concerns the Articles of Agreement - her marriage settlement - drawn up by an English lawyer under Uncle Marmaduke's direction. Reading the draft for the first time, Jemima is distressed and "ashamed" by parts of it, having trusted it would be just as she and "UM" had agreed. She suggests she and Wilhelm talk - with a lawyer too if needed - and asks Wilhelm to arrange a meeting time with Loui. She recommends consulting Mr Fairbridge about the antenuptial contract and possibly also showing him the agreement for his legal opinion, since they will want alterations. Jemima encloses two letters from "UM" related to the agreement for Wilhelm to read ahead of their meeting, and regrets she returned the original "skeleton agreement". She ends here to dress in case Agnes Dunn visits.
