Summary

A letter from Jemima Lloyd to Wilhelm Bleek, sent from Surrey on 4 December 1861. She received his letter but can only send a brief note, being pressed for time. She recounts her travels, including a visit to George Woolley's father and a stay with his sister Susan and her clergyman husband. She also summarises her upcoming movements. She updates Wilhelm on her health, which has improved in the countryside. Religion is a major theme throughout, from religious discussions with Mr Woolley to her looking forward to dicussing the subject with his clergyman son-in-law. She also describes a strained visit with Aunt Harriet due to past religious disagreements. She also resolves a family misunderstanding while visiting her Aunt Julia. Jemima then suffers a relapse of her spinal illness and consults Dr Russell, who advises waiting a year before returning to Natal. She reluctantly agrees, needing to recover enough to handle the "very trying things" there. But she may leave earlier if Loui needs her. As the post deadline nears, she signs off as his "dear friend" and "with love."
