Summary

A letter from Jemima Lloyd to Wilhelm Bleek, dated 5 August 1862 from London. Jemima writes hastily before the mail leaves, having received his letter upon arriving from Antwerp the previous day after returning from his mother and family in Bonn. She responds warmly to Wilhelm's improved health and his words of love and comfort. She understands his duty to his work and is glad to hear of it. She appreciates his "unselfish love" in permitting her to travel to Natal to her sisters before joining him in the Cape. Though difficult, the delay is a duty to fulfill before joining him forever. She is happy he informed Fanny and Julia of their engagement; they will receive her letters around the same time. Jemima assures Wilhelm he is "right" in God's sight - though their friends may think otherwise, they need not mind too deeply. She believes she knows what she is doing, trusting that God and Wilhelm will guide her. She informs him that Dr. Wolff is satisfied with her sailing in the Autumn. She is meeting Dr. Russell and will update Wilhelm by next mail. Jemima assures Wilhelm she will select her vessel carefully and spare no expense for her safety. She encloses a hurried scrap from his mother and signs off as "ever your wife".
